Old Timers Like Me

 My son's had to learn some things that existed way back...so an education too on things.  This modern generation is to into games to even check things of past regarding the internet.  At the time I got online I believe it was AOL sending out things trying to get people online.  That was where I started with internet.  Of course being married to a programmer we had computers back with 5" flopy drive cost almost 2K to even get one way back then.  Well everything software was on dos type screens..even the word processor they had...the name of that program slips my mind.  The neighbor children would even ask if they could use to type something for school...rare for people to have them.  Of course paper printer had perforated edge with holes you had to tear them off for a page once printed.

When I did install AOL it was color and windows looking as more now.  That new and big then.  Of course I was using at that time I think win 3.1...I think.  I did go to some of the chat channels they had on AOL...and did not like them so was sent to download software and connect to irc.  Same window looking type software in color.  At that time with unlimited dial-up access.. it was only unlimited for dos screen not the windows program.  You only could have so many hours with windows type software...anything over that you had to go back to the black/white dos screen.  A lot of old timers used this...as this was how we learned.  They offered to students this for free at college campuses I think.

They happen to have this still out there..I decided to look as typed in search ms dos and the window still there.  Funny the site name it is...to help people get on it today.  Back then it was rare to have web sites and domain names.. they offered them free and wow people went and grabbed up big name company names to try to make money when more companies got online.  You could get to a website using an IP address.  Back then code I think was html even.

I talked to several military people back then.. some kinda higher ranked even.  One a programmer even of fighter jets capabilities...had to make him come back...  A top kinda guy Coast Guard.. military men etc.. so these people also used channels.

Of course these some things son's needed to be aware of...ancient along with new.  Old timers might like to know they can take an old old computer and still get to this stuff.  They don't assign IP addresses any longer that you can get to a site when the shit hits the fan.  Like for my hosting site even I tied which you have to do..a domain to it..  they give you an IP address.. mine is this and it brings no site whatsoever  http://72.167.67.26/  Yet there are people out there with the knowledge and put their IP so their site will come up via satellite Steve Quayle one I mentioned.  I found out with FPB cable all I had to do is unplug my modem for 24 hrs and I would have a different IP address.  So they are up to no good.

I did find a company that does this but I was unable to get an account with them NitroHost.

So son's did need to be aware of things mom knew about that they did not.
